Verizon North LLC has been awarded a $817,475 state grant toward a $1,862,130 expansion project in the county, according to the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA).
The funding is part of a total of $204.1 million in grants for 53 projects approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority on Thursday. The $4.2 million approved for Franklin County was awarded to Zito West Holding, LLC to assist in ongoing broadband deployment.
Washington County and its internet service provider, Comcast, were awarded a $9.4 million grant to provide speedy internet access. Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority approved the grant to Washington County through the Broadband Infrastructure Program.

Four fiber-optic projects that will improve the county’s broadband access and high-speed internet were approved April 18 by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. The $204 million Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP) funded by the ARPA Capital Projects Fund resulted in 53 project awards, affecting 42 counties state-wide.
Comcast announced it has been selected by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as part of the Broadband Infrastructure Program funded by the Capital Projects Fund (CPF), to expand its network across 158 municipalities.
The announcement brings the total number of states that have received full approval to seven. In addition, the District of Columbia has received full approval.
